Vineyard: Howard Park
For over 30 years Howard Park has been one of Western Australia’s pioneering family-owned wineries, specialising in the State’s foremost grape-growing regions of Margaret River & the Great Southern. The Howard Park wine range is the culmination of its four vineyards – two in Margaret River (Leston in Wilyabrup & Allingham in Karridale) and two in the Great Southern (the Abercrombie & Mount Barrow, both in Mount Barker). Our wines are made according to two principles. They are either the top fruit of each of these wine regions blended together to create an optimal result, or they are standalone wines made from each region separately, to portray their unique terroir characteristics.
Drawing upon traditional winemaking methods, the Howard Park Miamup Chardonnay is crafted using fine grain French oak to create a layered, flavoursome and complex wine. A critical selection process is applied to our Margaret River vineyards for growing Miamup Chardonnay, thus ensuring that the highest quality grapes are selected. All of the individual vineyards at Howard Park that contribute to Miamup Chardonnay are vinified separately. Each location adds to the complexity of the wine due to the soils, aspects, clones and microclimates unique to the respective sites.
Whilst a little shy, even cryptic, the bouquet is delightfully complex with notes of stone fruit, roasted hazelnuts, beurre bosc pears, pink grapefruit, patisserie, honeysuckle and citrus blossom. The palate delivers great texture, flavour and presence in a lively and light frame, with a fine balance of generous fruit, subtle oak, and a refined mineral–like acidity. Immediately drinkable yet with lots of nuance and layers of flavour and complexity that will reveal over the next few years.
